UEFA is Breaking the Old Qualification System
UEFA is considering reforms to the qualification system for the World and European Championships, according to The Times.
The publication reports that the organization’s leadership is dissatisfied with the decline in revenue from the sale of television rights and intends to change the format of the qualification tournaments.
Among the options being discussed are the use of the Nations League as part of the qualification process, as well as the implementation of a Swiss model with an overall league table, which has been applied in European competitions since last season.
The decision could be made after the proposals are discussed by a working group and approved by UEFA's executive committee.
