Outcome of Indirect Negotiations Between Israel and Hamas Revealed
The first day of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, which resumed in Egypt, ended on a positive note. Following discussions, there are hopes for progress in implementing the 20-point plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump for ending the Gaza war, reports Al Jazeera.
The Hamas delegation informed mediators that the ongoing bombardments in Gaza complicate negotiations surrounding the exchange of prisoners. The delegation includes movement leaders Khalil al-Hayya and Zaher Jabari, who were among those rescued from an Israeli operation in Doha last month.
The discussions on the first day focused on the exchange of prisoners, ceasefire agreements, and the entry of humanitarian aid.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated that Trump aims to accelerate the process of exchanging Israeli captives for Palestinian prisoners to create 'dynamics' for the implementation of other points in his peace plan. 'Technical teams are currently discussing the details to ensure the appropriate environment for the release of prisoners,' Levitt noted, adding that the parties are reviewing lists of both Israeli captives and Palestinian political prisoners to be released.
In a speech given in the Oval Office of the White House, Trump remarked, 'We really have a great opportunity to reach an agreement,' but added that he still has his 'red lines.' 'I think things are going well, and Hamas is agreeing on a number of important issues,' he said. The media reports that Trump did not disclose details regarding the progress of the negotiations, only emphasizing his overall positive assessment.
