Alen Simonian 'Defeated' Andranik Kocharyan: Their Conflict Resolved
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that the artificial conflict between Alen Simonian and Andranik Kocharyan has been resolved in favor of Simonian. More specifically, the authorities did not want to make the report about the 44-day war an object of discussion in the National Assembly, as this discussion could rekindle tensions and remind the public of the war, while they have been promoting a false peace campaign for over two months.
The Speaker of the National Assembly has sent the report to the Assembly's first secret section, and only those deputies with access to classified information can review it. Although the Speaker proposed to discuss the report in a closed session format, Andranik Kocharyan rejected the idea.
We asked Vladimir Vardanyan, the head of the Committee on State and Legal Affairs, what conclusion he conveyed to the Speaker of the National Assembly and whether the report is indeed overdue. Kocharyan claims that the constitutional committee is legitimate as long as the parliament has not completed its powers. Vardanyan spoke at length and did not directly state whether it is overdue, saying: 'There cannot be a dispute unless there is a misinterpretation. We have no misinterpretation; I have clearly presented what is stipulated by the law on the functioning of the National Assembly. However, the enormous work done by the committee is of great importance to us. The document is ready, it is in the Assembly... those who have access to state secrets can review it.'
