National Assembly Approves Statement on Establishing Peace Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
The National Assembly has adopted a statement on "Establishing Peace Between Armenia and Azerbaijan," authored by the Civil Contract party, during an extraordinary session. A total of 64 MPs voted in favor of the bill, with 2 abstentions. The abstaining votes came from independent MPs Hovik Aghazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan.
Earlier, the Armenia faction announced that it would not participate in the discussion. It is noteworthy that at the conclusion of today’s regular session of the National Assembly, it was announced that the Civil Contract faction had decided to convene an extraordinary session to discuss the text of the statement initiated by the faction leader, Hayk Konjoryan.
In his speech, Konjoryan noted that the National Assembly is expressing its support for the agreements reached in Washington on August 8. Recall that on August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration comprising seven points, which plans to create a strategic transit route through southern Armenia (Syunik region) for 99 years, with the possibility of extending it for another 99 years. This route will be designated as the "Trump Way" (TRIPP) and will provide Azerbaijan with trade access to Nakhichevan.
Pashinyan also declared that Armenia is not leasing the land to the American side for 99 years, but rather granting the right to develop it.
