Call for UEFA to Exclude Israel from Competitions
A group of 47 athletes has appealed to the European football governing body, UEFA, demanding the removal of Israeli clubs and national teams from international competitions. The open letter was published on the Athletes4peace portal.
"Sports is not neutral towards injustice. To remain silent means accepting that some lives are more valuable than others. We believe in one standard for all nations and peoples – justice without double standards," the statement reads.
On September 23, eight UN experts reached out to UEFA and FIFA, requesting the exclusion of Israel from international competitions, citing ongoing genocide in Palestinian territories as their motivation.
