Ambassador Appointed to Armenia Must Know Armenian and Be Familiar with Its Characteristics, Says Mamedyarov
Elmar Mamedyarov, the former Azerbaijani foreign minister, discussed the process of establishing diplomatic relations with Armenia and his role in it during an interview with local media.
"It would be good for the ambassador to be appointed in Armenia to know Armenian and be familiar with the characteristics of that people. It is not mandatory for him to be a diplomat; someone from outside can be appointed. The important thing is that he understands and knows the characteristics of the Armenian people," he said.
Mamedyarov noted that before appointing an ambassador, it is necessary to sign a special document on establishing diplomatic relations. After that, it will be possible to discuss who will be the ambassador and how many employees will be in the embassy.
When asked about working as an ambassador in Yerevan, Mamedyarov responded, "Whatever they deem appropriate."
