American Soldier Attempted to Provide Information about Abrams Tanks to Russia
On August 6, a soldier from El Paso, Texas, named Taylor Adam Lee was arrested on espionage charges. He is accused of attempting to transfer information about national defense to a foreign adversary and exporting controlled technical data without a license, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
According to John Eisenberg, Assistant Attorney General for National Security, the 22-year-old soldier tried to convey details regarding the operational features of the M1A2 Abrams tank to Russia in July. It has been revealed that Taylor Lee allegedly sought to provide classified military information about the vulnerabilities of American tanks to an individual he believed to be a Russian intelligence officer in exchange for obtaining Russian citizenship.
