Loss of Artsakh Linked to Armenia's Rejection of Implementation of Clause 9, Kocharyan
The so-called Zangezur corridor remains a topic of discussion at the negotiation table today. This was stated by the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, in an interview with Channel 5.
“I must return to the November 9 statement after the 2020 war. I have information that the issue of this road was included at Azerbaijan's request in the 9th clause of the statement, creating symmetry with the Lachin corridor. The loss of Artsakh is related to Armenia's refusal to execute the 9th clause. The issue of the ‘Zangezur corridor’ should have been resolved at the moment when Artsakh was surrendered,” Kocharyan said.
According to Kocharyan, this is a masterpiece of diplomatic failure. “Now there is no Artsakh, there is no Lachin corridor, but this topic continues to live its own life. When this topic lives on its own, it means you are making your territory disputed, and other states are negotiating the creation of a corridor through your territory. This is a situation where you are not at the negotiating table but instead are included in the menu,” Kocharyan noted.
