Abbas Araghchi Makes Statement
The attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities by the U.S. and Israel constitute a gross violation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). This was announced by Abbas Araghchi, the head of the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry, at the BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro.
"The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran is currently assessing and analyzing the situation, and a report will be presented to the government. According to the religious decree (fatwa) of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, nuclear weapons have no place in the republic's defensive doctrine, and they are prohibited from a religious standpoint," added Araghchi.
On July 2, during an interview with CBS News, the minister stated that Iran's nuclear facilities have sustained significant damage from U.S. strikes. He noted that no one knows exactly what has happened at the Fordow uranium enrichment plant, which was targeted by the U.S. military. Currently, it is known that the facilities have suffered serious and severe damage, the diplomat said.
