For the First Time in 100 Years, Swimming Allowed in the Seine
Paris has opened three designated swimming areas in the Seine, one of which is just a few minutes away from the Eiffel Tower. On Saturday morning at 8:00 AM, the first Parisians and tourists entered the water in the Bramerie zone, under the watchful eye of lifeguards.
This year, the Seine has already hosted Olympic and Paralympic triathlon and swimming competitions; however, the media and citizens continue to blame Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo for the water quality issues.
Since 2015, France has invested 1.4 billion euros to clean the river and make it safe for citizens to enjoy.
