Final Count of Victims from Crashed Airplane in India Revealed
The Indian government has officially announced for the first time the total number of victims from the crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner near Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat on June 12. According to NDTV, citing the Gujarat health department, a total of 275 people died as a result of the crash, including 241 on the aircraft and 34 on the ground.
This is the first official confirmation of the final death toll. Previously, the government had refrained from providing data as the process of identifying bodies through DNA was ongoing. The state health department has reported that all bodies from the tragic site have been recovered. 260 bodies have been identified through DNA, and 6 more through facial recognition. Among them are 120 men, 124 women, and 16 children.
It is worth recalling that earlier reports indicated a plane had crashed at the Ahmedabad airport in India. Media outlets stated that the aircraft failed to take off and collided with a residential area.
