Passengers Who Do Not Pay Will Be Registered in Yerevan: Counting System Installed in Buses
The Yerevan Municipality now has the technical capabilities to record which passengers are not paying their transportation fares. This was announced by the Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, during a discussion on the performance report of the 2024 state budget.
According to him, about 80% of passengers pay their fares responsibly, but there are also those who do not care that public transport cannot function properly without adequate payment. Avinyan stated that these individuals are only interested in whether they will bear any responsibility for their actions.
“But in buses and at the doors, we already have not only cameras but also a system that allows us to record who is attempting to pay with a non-functional card or QR code,” Avinyan said. He noted that there are occasional malfunctions with validators in public transport, but such cases are rare.
The mayor did not specify when it is planned to start penalizing passengers based on this system or to establish a monitoring service.
