Expansion of Free Stenting Surgeries Announced
The Ministry of Health of Armenia is planning to expand the scope of free surgeries for the placement of coronary stents. This was announced by Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan during the discussion of the performance report of the 2024 state budget in the National Assembly.
The ministry proposes that patients receive such opportunities not only in pre-infarction states but also in earlier stages of cardiovascular diseases. According to Avanesyan, following the same logic, last year the ministry increased allocations for surgeries related to aortic dissection.
Arsen Torosyan, the chairman of the Health Committee of the National Assembly and former Minister of Health, also suggested discussing the feasibility of such an expansion. He stated that global statistics show that about 20 percent of cases of stent placements are performed without real necessity.
