Why Has Russia Requested a UN Security Council Meeting?
Russia has requested a meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding the threats to peace stemming from European countries that are "trying to obstruct" a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, according to Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the global organization.
“On May 29, the European sponsors of the Kyiv regime requested a meeting concerning the humanitarian situation in Ukraine. We decided to respond in kind and request a meeting ourselves, regarding the threats to international peace and security that arise from the actions of a number of European states. They are attempting to hinder efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis. We expect it to be scheduled for May 30,” the diplomat wrote.
