Trump Discusses Possible Sanctions Against Russia This Week
US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia this week, reports the Wall Street Journal.
The aim of the new sanctions is to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin into making concessions, including agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire. A final decision on the new sanctions has yet to be made, and Donald Trump may choose to refrain from implementing them.
According to the newspaper, the discussed restrictions do not include additional sanctions against Russia's banking sector.
"We are in the negotiation process, and he is launching missiles at Kyiv and other cities. I don't like that at all," Trump stated on Sunday, criticizing Putin and expressing confusion over what has happened to the Russian leader.
This commentary from the US president follows reports of mass shelling by Russia on Ukrainian cities.
