We will impose a powerful sanctions package against them: Kallas
The European Union is preparing the 17th package of sanctions against Russia due to the conflict in Ukraine and intends to finalize it in May. This was announced by the head of European diplomacy, Kaia Kallas, at a press conference following an EU Council meeting in Luxembourg, TASS reports.
“It is clear that we are working on the 17th sanctions package, which will include the shadow fleet and other elements, to be included in the EU Council agenda in May,” Kallas stated.
In response to journalists’ questions about whether the new sanctions package would include a ban on liquefied natural gas supplies from Russia, Kallas replied, “Discussions are underway now, but you know that sanctions require the agreement of all 27 countries. However, my opinion is that a powerful sanctions package should be introduced as much as possible,” she added.
It is also worth mentioning that the last, 16th package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia was imposed by the European Union on February 24, 2025.
