No Increase in Population, Instead, the Number of Vehicles Is Rising
The population of Armenia has barely increased, with only a negligible rise, while the number of vehicles has doubled in recent years. This was stated by Armen Khachatryan, the Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security, during discussions on road traffic safety in the National Assembly.
“We do not have an increase in population, but the number of vehicles is rising. The reason the number of vehicles is increasing in Armenia is that there is no proper, predictable, comfortable public transportation. In other words, when people think about how to move around safely, even if it’s with low-cost transportation, their priority is to arrive on time. We need to have such public transportation that even when having 2 or 3 cars in the garage, we primarily use public transport,” Khachatryan stated.
