This is a big issue, and it will only grow: Vance
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance arrived at an American military base in Greenland on Friday, as reported by Associated Press.
Immediately after the landing of the plane carrying the American delegation, Vance, along with his wife, went to speak with the military personnel.
During a joint lunch, the vice president noted that he is "very interested in the security of the Arctic." He stated, "As you know, this is a big issue, and it will only grow in the coming decades."
Among the delegation are U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.
Previously, both the island and Denmark, to which it belongs, had seen the upcoming visit as pressure from the U.S.
This year, U.S. President Donald Trump, in a message to Congress, stated that he does not intend to abandon territorial claims over Greenland. He noted that the U.S. would agree to accept the island into its territory if its residents express such a desire.
