Turkey to Begin Work on Zangezur Corridor in Coming Months, Says Minister

Turkey will begin work on the Zangezur Corridor, a 224-kilometer section passing through its territory, in the coming months. This announcement was made by Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, at Istanbul Technical University, as reported by milliyet.com.

“The Zangezur Corridor will start from Azerbaijan, pass through either Armenia or Iran, then through Nakhchivan, followed by Dilucu and Kars, and will connect to the Baku-Tbilisi route. In fact, it will also connect to our country's railway network to a certain extent. Construction work in this direction continues on the Azerbaijani side,” he stated.

The Zangezur Corridor project is one of Azerbaijan's numerous unfounded demands against the Republic of Armenia. Its purpose is to undermine Armenia's control over a part of its sovereign territory, cutting the Armenian-Iranian border and linking Baku with Nakhchivan and Turkey. Baku asserts that Azerbaijan should have a connection to Nakhchivan via Syunik, but without customs and border control. However, Yerevan counters that the communication route should be under the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia.
