Moscow-Kyiv Tensions Escalate: China Calls for Restraint
Beijing is urging restraint from both Russia and Ukraine. This statement was made by the official representative of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhao Lijian, in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's warning that Russian airspace is no longer safe, as reported by the "RIA Novosti" agency.
"Dialogue and negotiations are the only viable paths to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. The Chinese side calls on all parties to maintain calm and restraint," said the diplomat. Zhao also urged the parties to work together to swiftly ease tensions and create conditions for a political solution to the crisis.
Earlier, Zelensky warned airlines using Russian airspace that it has become dangerous due to Ukrainian drones. Russian President Vladimir Putin responded by stating that Russia would find a retaliatory measure if Kyiv attempts to implement its threats of closing Russian airspace.
