The Operation Will Be Relentless: Pentagon
U.S. military forces will continue to strike Yemen's Houthi rebels until they announce that they will cease attacks on American ships and drones, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth stated on Sunday.
“The era of ‘peace through strength’ is back. The moment the Houthis say, ‘We will stop attacking your ships, we will stop attacking your drones,’ our operations will end. But until that moment, it will be relentless,” he said during an appearance on Fox News.
In turn, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CBS News that in the past year and a half, the Houthis have “attacked U.S. naval forces 174 times.” He noted that the Houthis should not control which ships can transit where. Rubio emphasized that military operations will continue as long as the Houthis retain the capability to carry out such attacks.
Just the day before, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had ordered strong strikes against the Houthis. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on Israel. In response, Israel began military operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. This has led to the Houthis in Yemen increasing their attacks in the region.
