How Climbers Were Trapped Under an Avalanche on Mount Ararat: One Missing
One of the Spanish climbers affected by the avalanche on the northern peak of Mount Ararat shared details of the incident with NEWS.am. "We were reaching the summit when the avalanche started. All that snow poured over us, and we rolled down about 400 meters in the avalanche. I don't know what to say... I just want to express my gratitude to those who rescued us. Today was a bad day for us," he stated, mentioning that they had come to Armenia to ski.
Earlier, it was reported that on March 11, at 15:26, the crisis management center of the Aragatsotn regional rescue service received a call that an avalanche had occurred on the northern peak of Mount Ararat. A group of nine climbers was trapped under the snow; eight individuals managed to escape, while one is missing. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, one citizen remains unaccounted for. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, involving 51 rescue workers and two helicopters from "ARMENIAN HELICOPTERS".
