Trump Does Not Wish to Maintain the Status Quo of the Panama Canal
The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has informed Panama's President José Raúl that U.S. leader Donald Trump does not wish to maintain the status quo regarding the Panama Canal, considering China's increased influence in the region, according to the U.S. diplomatic office. This was reported by РИА Новости.
“Rubio has informed the president that Trump has made a preliminary decision that the current state of influence and control of the Chinese Communist Party over the Panama Canal area poses a threat to the canal and violates the treaty on the permanent neutrality and operation of the Panama Canal,” the statement reads.
