These issues will not be resolved if the capital's transport reforms remain incomplete: Batoyan
The Yerevan Municipality provides the opportunity to more than 851,000 citizens to use all means of transport under preferential conditions. This was stated by Zaruhi Batoyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party, on her Facebook page.
“Previously, certain groups only had privileges to use specific modes of transport but not buses or minibuses. I do not remember anything like that. Of course, many issues are still relevant, because even today, despite having the right to free transport, these same groups face challenges in exercising that right. The lack of transport, the inaccessibility of the metro, inadequate facilities at stops, the absence of clear and accessible schedules, and finally, congested traffic continue to pose serious obstacles.
But these problems will not be overcome, or will be resolved very slowly if the capital's transport reforms remain incomplete. The Yerevan Council has adopted a decision establishing a fare of 150 drams per trip, and there will also be packages for a unified ticketing system, allowing citizens to take advantage of the specified privileges if they choose them. The ongoing transport reform, which has already shown visible results, requires our collective support and participation to reach its logical conclusion,” she wrote.
