Iran's Chargé d'Affaires Summoned by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Chargé d'Affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan, Saeed Jafari Aghae Mariyan, has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was reported by the Azerbaijani APA agency.
A complaint has been lodged against him regarding an 'open campaign' against Azerbaijan and its leadership in 'pro-government Iranian print media'. This is not the first time he has been summoned by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the same incident.
The reason for the previous summoning was statements made by one of Iran's influential clerics, Ayatollah Ameli, in the presence of Iran’s Supreme Leader’s representative in Ardabil, which were deemed 'offensive and provocative' in Baku.
