I Will Discuss This Issue with Biden: Zelensky
Kiev requires security guarantees from Western countries, even if the republic is currently unable to become a NATO member. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting in Kiev with German Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz, as reported by NTV.
According to the text, during the meeting with Chancellor candidate Merz, the Ukrainian leader referred to French President Macron's idea that 'a certain contingent of troops from a certain country could be present in Ukraine as long as Ukraine has not joined NATO.' He emphasized the need to clearly understand when 'Ukraine will become a member of the EU, and when Ukraine will be able to become a NATO member.'
Zelensky also noted that he would discuss this issue with outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden 'in the near future.'
Previously, the French newspaper Le Monde, citing sources, reported that Western countries had resumed discussions on sending their troops or fighter jets to Ukraine from private military companies. This comes amid the possibility of a cessation of U.S. support for Ukraine. He stated that the discussions are confidential in nature.
