Video: Pashinyan Shares Details of Meeting with Aliyev
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has provided details regarding his discussions during the BRICS summit, particularly his private conversation with the President of Azerbaijan.
He emphasized that interactions during the BRICS summit, especially with the Azerbaijani President, were vital for Armenia. "It might sound strange that we haven't had such a long conversation in ages or perhaps at all. I personally feel there was a slight issue of propriety because the other leaders were making speeches while we were exchanging ideas. A very important conversation took place," he stated, adding, "I express my satisfaction with the discussions I had with the Azerbaijani President and the extended group. A very important conversation took place, and I believe that meeting held particular significance."
According to the Prime Minister, the main topic of the meeting was the peace process: "Azerbaijan and Armenia need not only agreements for peace but also a strategic deal. This is an important issue that must be dedicated to the long-term context of how we, as independent states, plan to live in the coming centuries," he stressed.
Pashinyan also noted that Armenia is close to agreeing on the text of a peace treaty. He stated that there could be solutions regarding the opening of regional communications, and this proposal has already been conveyed to Azerbaijan: "The significant event that took place in Kazan was that we may have solutions regarding the opening of regional communications. We have also conveyed this proposal to Azerbaijan in written form," the Prime Minister remarked.
He added that Armenia's proposals regarding the remaining two articles of the peace treaty were forwarded to Azerbaijan on Monday. "Certain formalities remain, but we will continue our work," he concluded.
