No One Guarantees That Nuclear Weapons Won't Be Used, Says Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that certain Western elites do not want to allow the creation of a new international system that aligns with the interests of the majority. Putin made this statement during a session of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi.
“Such blind faith in one's impunity (of Western countries) could turn into a global catastrophe,” noted Putin.
International conflicts and clashes are fraught with mutual destruction, and no one guarantees that nuclear weapons will not be used. “These weapons exist and are constantly being improved, and new forms of them are emerging against the backdrop of technological development. The club of those who possess such weapons is also expanding. No one guarantees that in the face of a flood of threats and the complete destruction of legal and moral norms, they will not be used,” Putin said.
He also believes that calls from the West to bring about Russia's strategic defeat, the country with the largest nuclear arsenal, reflect the boundless recklessness of certain politicians.
