Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, is currently leading in the presidential elections in the United States.
Trump's main competitor is Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party candidate. The outcome of the elections is determined not by ordinary voters, but by the Electoral College, which consists of 538 representatives from various states. The number of electors from each region is proportional to its population and ranges from three to 55.
If a candidate receives more than 50 percent support from the residents of a state, they will receive all of that state’s electoral votes (everywhere except Maine and Nebraska). In total, a candidate must collect at least 270 electoral votes to win the country.
As it stands, Trump has obtained 277 electoral votes while Harris has received 226.
