Narek Sargsyan, the nephew of the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, has been released from prison after serving his sentence. The information was confirmed in an interview with Faktinfo by Nona Navikyan, head of the Public Relations Department of the Corrections Department.
It is worth noting that on June 26, 2018, the National Security Service of Armenia opened a criminal case for the illegal acquisition, sale, storage, transportation, or carrying of weapons, military ammunition, explosive materials or devices, as well as for the illegal circulation of narcotics and psychoactive substances.
On July 6, a wanted notice was issued against Narek Sargsyan, and on July 24, he was listed internationally as wanted.
Thanks to extensive operational and investigative measures conducted in cooperation with various law enforcement agencies in several European countries and Interpol, on December 6, Narek Aleksandri Sargsyan was located in Prague, where he was on the international wanted list. On December 21, he was transferred from the Czech Republic to Armenia under police escort.
In 2021, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Vahe Misakyan, found him guilty and sentenced him to 5.5 years of imprisonment. However, taking into account the time he spent in custody, his final sentence was established as 3 years and 6 months in prison.
