If Proven, I Will Resign My Mandate: Ghazaryan
A criminal case has been opened regarding this fact, and it would be logical for the authorities to respond afterward. This was stated by the MP of the "Civil Contract" faction, Hovik Ghazaryan, in an interview with NEWS.am, referring to the recent incident involving him and the head of the Investigative Committee, Arghisti Kyaramyan, who today expressed regret for the occurrence and seemingly closed the topic.
"I believe that a person of Mr. Kyaramyan's character should not hold such a responsible and important position, but I am not the decision-maker. The decision-maker is the Prime Minister of Armenia, who is well aware of what has happened and knows more things that we do not know. Therefore, he weighs everything carefully and then makes a decision. I do not consider it appropriate for any MP or group of MPs to pressure the Prime Minister in this regard," he said.
Speaking about the expression of regret, Ghazaryan stated, "It’s a commendable act for a man to take, but the decision-maker must make a decision. My concern is different, which I expressed during my speech at the hearings. I believe that detention should not be used as a means of pressure to extract desired testimonies. There are such cases. If I am mistaken and such things do not exist, or if Mr. Kyaramyan later has discussions with his subordinates to ensure that such things do not happen, then I will consider myself, as an MP, to have been somehow useful to our state and society."
Regarding Kyaramyan not naming who approached him on behalf of Hovik Ghazaryan, the MP from the ruling party said, "I am still declaring, regardless of what the Prime Minister decides, what the administration decides concerning me, if this is proven, I will resign my mandate."
