Ukraine Cannot Join NATO in Its Current Status
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has stated that Ukraine's accession to NATO is currently impossible as the country is at war. He made this remark in an interview with ZDF television.
“It is important to understand that a country in a state of war cannot, of course, become a member of NATO. Everyone knows this, and there are no disagreements on this issue,” said Scholz.
An official invitation for NATO membership is the first point of President Vladimir Zelensky's 'victorious plan.' The President noted that Ukraine's entry into the alliance may be delayed until the end of military operations.
According to Politico, citing sources, seven alliance countries oppose Ukraine's immediate NATO membership. The main opponents of the invitation are the United States and Germany. Additionally, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium, Slovenia, and Spain are not in favor of inviting Ukraine.
