What Biden Told Pashinyan in His Letter: Details

U.S. President Joe Biden has sent a letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. The letter states,

“Dear Prime Minister,

I am pleased to see that your country and Azerbaijan have made steady progress towards finalizing a peace agreement that will regulate the relations between your two countries.

I want to assure you that the United States is ready to support a sustainable and dignified peace agreement that will finally end a centuries-old conflict. A peace agreement that guarantees the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Armenia will ensure security and stability not only for the Armenian people but will transform the entire South Caucasus region.

As you know, finalizing the remaining articles of the peace agreement will require persistence, creativity, and compromise. However, placing patriotism above politics, you have boldly and consistently chosen the path of peace, and I encourage you to finalize the agreement this year.

My administration is ready to undertake bold initiatives that will help pave the way to peace. I have asked European Director Michael Carpenter to inform you of some steps we would like to take and to get your thoughts on discussions with Azerbaijan.

As mentioned last month at the UN General Assembly in New York, the time has come to reaffirm our commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter and fundamental principles of peace. A brighter future is within reach, and I look forward to working with you to seize it.”
