The Number of Pro-European Integration Supporters in Moldova Exceeds Opponents
In Moldova, the percentage of voters supporting and opposing European integration in the recent referendum has been evenly split at 50.00%. However, the number of those voting 'yes' has exceeded those voting 'no' by 88 votes. This information was reported by РИА Новости, citing the country’s Central Electoral Commission, which has already processed 97.66% of the votes.
According to the CEC's calculations, 721,760 voters supported the idea of joining the EU, while 721,672 were against. Initial results had indicated a victory for the opponents of integration, with preliminary data showing a vote distribution of 58.09% against and 41.3% in favor. Nonetheless, during the counting process, this difference began to decrease.
As part of the referendum, citizens were asked to respond to a single question: “Do you support amendments to the Constitution aimed at the Republic of Moldova’s membership in the European Union?”
