New Regulations on Frequent Power Outages
According to new regulations, in the event of a recurring violation of the established timelines for emergency electricity supply interruptions and their restoration, the company "Armenian Electric Networks" CJSC will pay a fine equal to 50% of the average monthly cost of consumed electricity, but no more than 10,000 drams, within a calendar year. This was reported by the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia, emphasizing that similar regulations have also been established for drinking water supply and wastewater (sewage treatment) service regulations.
The new regulations will come into effect on January 1, 2025. The Commission reminds that according to the current distribution network rules of the electricity market, the distributor pays a fine in case of violations of the established procedure or timelines for planned and emergency supply interruptions and their restoration, amounting to 50% of the average monthly cost of consumed electricity, but not exceeding 2,500 drams.
In cases of emergency interruptions where the restoration timelines specified by the regulations are exceeded, a fine will be paid by "Armenian Electric Networks" CJSC to the consumer, which will be 50% of the average monthly value of consumed electricity, but not more than 3,500 drams. This regulation will also be in effect starting from January 1, 2025.
