Armenian Hydrometeorology Responds to Expected Flooding from Hurricane 'Milton' in Florida
In Florida, it is forecasted that the rainfall expected in one day will equal the total amount of precipitation that falls in Yerevan over ten months. This was stated by Levon Azizyan, director of the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center, on his Facebook page.
According to predictions, Hurricane 'Milton' will intensify in the next 24 hours and move into central Florida. By Thursday night, wave heights at sea will reach 7 to 9 meters, with wind speeds of 40 to 50 m/s, which will cause significant destruction. During this time, buildings, structures, and homes may be seriously damaged, trees will be uprooted, and vegetation will be completely destroyed.
In some areas, it is anticipated that the amount of precipitation could reach 180 to 230 mm per day, or about 200 liters per square meter. For comparison, it should be noted that Yerevan receives such an amount of rainfall over nearly ten months.
By Friday, the storm is expected to move away from Florida and rotate in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 400 kilometers away.
