Who is the Businessman at the 'Heart' of Power?
The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports: "In addition to the new oligarch Narek Nalbandian, all businesses belonging to Davit Yeremyan have also become privileged, obtaining the greatest state support. According to the newspaper's information, aside from providing food services for state agencies at events, the Yeremyans have also expanded their appetite in the areas of food provision for the Amulsar, Teghut, and Sotk mines.
The fact is that with the resumption of the mines' operations, contracts have been signed for the provision of food for mine workers by 'Yeremyan Projects'. To hear the other side of this information, the newspaper contacted the director of 'Yeremyan Projects', Davit Yeremyan, asking him to confirm if the information was correct and in which mines the company was providing food services.
We also requested a response regarding why contracts for food service at the mines are only signed with 'Yeremyan Projects' without competition—whether this is due to certain agreements with the authorities. In response to our inquiry, the company referred to several laws which do not presume restrictions on the freedom of information or confidentiality. Even our second question, which was indicative of opinion, received no response.
In post-revolutionary Armenia, 'Yeremyan Projects' was financed again in 2018 by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) with $25 million for constructing a new livestock complex in the Tashir community. Meanwhile, the architect who distorted the design of the sports and concert complex is also Yeremyan, who installed a visually intrusive elevator on the wall of the complex and opened the 'Livingston' luxury hotel—a move that would have been unacceptable in any era.
