VIDEO: The Important Red Lines – A Puzzling Sight
In several streets of downtown Yerevan, after the paving, so-called red lines immediately appeared. Meanwhile, traffic regulation markings have been absent in these streets for several days. Citizens express their confusion regarding the current situation, stating that red lines seem to be much more important to city authorities than the road markings, which are significantly more critical for traffic and drivers.
Auroranews took a tour of several streets in the center, noting the truly puzzling image. Our camera captured that markings are missing even on Amiryan Street in front of the Yegishe Charents Secondary School No. 67, while adjacent Saryan Street, which was also recently paved, has visible "fresh" red lines.
In response to the prevailing situation, the transportation department of the Yerevan Municipality informed Auroranews that paid red markings are implemented in accordance with legislation regulating existing paid parking spaces and decisions made by the Yerevan City Council. Road markings are applied after the completion of asphalt paving, medium renovations, and crack sealing works. The streets lacking markings are still under construction, and the markings will be made immediately after the works are completed.
This commentary further strengthens the claim that paid red lines are of much greater importance to the municipality. It is noteworthy that according to official data, from January 1 to August 30 of this year, the amount paid for parking spaces designated for zone A in Yerevan totaled 1 billion 145 million 432.7 thousand drams, while for zone B, it amounted to 393 million 823.4 thousand drams.
