Participation in the CIS and BRICS Summits is Crucial for Armenia, Says Simonian
Armenia's participation in the unofficial summit of the CIS and the BRICS summit aligns with the country's interests. This was announced by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, during a briefing with reporters.
According to him, attending the CIS summit is important because one of the foundations of the CIS is the Alma-Ata Declaration, which Armenia is currently using as a basis in all its negotiation directions. “We cannot reject a format whose main document serves as a foundation for our principal negotiation discussions. This is also very important from a security perspective,” said Simonian.
Regarding Armenia's decision to participate in the BRICS summit, Simonian clarified that the country has important economic ties and should not remain outside the region. He emphasized that various countries under different sanctions are seeking alternative paths to redirect economic flows. “Yes, Armenia should participate in the BRICS summit based on its interests,” Simonian stated.
It should be noted that Armenia will be represented by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the BRICS summit, which will take place at the end of October in Kazan. Armenia will also participate in the unofficial CIS summit, scheduled for the eve of the parade in Moscow commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
