Zangezur Corridor is a False Corridor: Iran Opposes
The head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Aziz, has stated that the Islamic Republic views the 'Zangezur Corridor' as a red line and will respond decisively to any changes regarding it, as reported by Mehr.
In this context, he commented on Russia's recent stance during the meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev of Russia and Azerbaijan regarding the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor.' Aziz remarked, 'It is evident that the geopolitical developments concerning the Zangezur Corridor do not align with the interests of the countries in the region, and Iran is firmly opposed to this issue.'
Commenting on the absurd notions of several states concerning the 'Turan' project, the Iranian senior legislator stated that, in fact, the 'Zangezur Corridor' is a false corridor, and there apparently are some projects underneath the guise of this corridor aimed at weakening Iran's military and political power in the region.
'We warn those who have such illusions that the consequences of those decisions will be severe and costly for them. The Islamic Republic of Iran, guided by sound reasoning, will never seek to create tension in the region,' Aziz said, adding that, on the other hand, the country will defend itself if there is a threat to its territorial integrity.
Stating that Iran is closely monitoring developments in the South Caucasus, he emphasized, 'We have repeatedly communicated through various means to the countries in the region that this corridor is considered a red line for Iran, and any change in it will meet with a serious and decisive response from Iran.'
