VIDEO: Return of Artsakh Residents Unlikely Under Current Conditions, Says KP MP
The signing of a peace treaty is an action aimed at resolving the conflict. Its goal is to ensure peace and stability in the region, and later normalize relations with Azerbaijan and establish good neighborliness. This was stated today by the chair of the National Assembly’s Foreign Relations Committee and the MP from the ruling Civil Contract Party, Sarkis Khandanian, during a conversation with journalists regarding whether the issue of Artsakh is being closed off by the peace treaty.
“Armenia has repeatedly declared that it has no territorial claims towards any of its neighbors. This is also enshrined in the 'Peace Treaty' principle of mutual recognition of each other’s territorial integrity. As for humanitarian issues, they are always subject to discussion at various levels. In particular, concerning our compatriots in Nagorno-Karabakh, you see what actions the Armenian government is taking,” emphasized the KP MP.
Referring to Prime Minister Pashinyan's statement that he does not consider it realistic to implement the right of return for Artsakh residents as envisioned by the leaders of Artsakh, Khandanian said, “It was very difficult to resolve the issue of rights for various reasons. I also believe that under these circumstances, it is unrealistic for the Artsakh residents to return. I don’t think that we can discuss this issue publicly at this moment. The issue of security is the most critical, which has yet to be resolved. Armenia’s security remains very threatened, and under these circumstances, signing the peace treaty is a priority for Armenia.”
