Belarusian Ambassador Congratulates Catholicos on Behalf of Lukashenko
The Belarusian Ambassador, Alexander Konyuk, has congratulated the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, on his birthday on behalf of President Alexander Lukashenko, as reported by sources from Sputnik Armenia.
During their meeting on August 27, the Catholicos and the ambassador discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation.
Relations between Yerevan and Minsk have significantly cooled in recent times. Tensions arose between officials of the two countries following Lukashenko's assessments of the results of the Nagorno-Karabakh war. Later, Prime Minister Pashinyan stated that the Belarusian leader had indeed admitted to providing assistance to Azerbaijan. He had banned Armenian officials from traveling to Belarus as long as President Alexander Lukashenko remains in power.
Recently, after Lukashenko’s comments regarding the Armenian authorities, an action was held near the Belarusian embassy in Armenia, where tomatoes and potatoes were thrown towards the embassy.
