The Sun Extends the Magnetic Storm Cycle, Says Director of the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center
The Sun is extending the magnetic storm cycle. This was announced by Levon Azizyan, director of the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center, on his Facebook page.
“Just yesterday, a magnetic storm that had been observed for three days with interruptions ended on Earth. However, contrary to expectations, it was weak. At the same time, the Sun does not seem to be calming down, as its eruptions continue, with intensity approaching the maximum possible X class,” he wrote.
Azizyan added that the updated forecast of the geomagnetic field indicates new magnetic storms expected on August 3-4: “They are expected to begin late Saturday afternoon and continue until at least Sunday noon. Computational models predict that the intensity of disturbances in the Earth's magnetosphere will reach average levels—G2 class—after midnight. By the beginning of next week, the geomagnetic field will gradually settle into a calm state.”
