American B-52H Bombers Approached Russia's Borders, Says Russian Defense Ministry

Russian MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighter jets were scrambled to intercept American B-52N bombers that were approaching the state border over the Barents Sea, according to the Defense Ministry.

The air defense duty group carried out anti-aircraft defense operations. The crew reported the detection of a pair of American B-52H strategic bombers. As the bombers approached, they turned back from the Russian border.

The military department added that the Russian aircraft successfully returned to their airfield. The Defense Ministry emphasized that the flights of the MiG-29 and MiG-31 took place over neutral waters, strictly adhering to international regulations regarding the use of airspace.
