55 People Die From Consuming Fake Alcohol in India
In Tamil Nadu, India, the death toll from consuming fake alcohol has reached 55, with an additional 142 individuals still hospitalized due to poisoning. This information has been reported by the Hindu newspaper.
The incident occurred in the town of Kalakurichi, where initial reports of fatalities due to counterfeit alcohol began to surface on June 18, with the numbers steadily increasing thereafter.
As part of the preliminary investigation, the police have arrested four suspects believed to be involved in the illicit alcohol trade and detained an additional ten individuals. The state government has also removed from office the district police chief, the deputy police chief, three inspectors, and three junior inspectors.
