Lawyer Discusses the Progress of the Criminal Case Against Vahan Kerobyan
The criminal case against former Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan, in which other officials from the ministry and representatives from the private sector are involved, is gradually collapsing. This statement was made by lawyer Tigran Egoryan during a press conference.
It should be noted that Vahan Kerobyan is implicated in corruption-related abuses. On February 16, a house arrest was imposed on him for a duration of two months. On April 13, the house arrest was extended for another two months. All possible restrictions have been applied against Vahan Kerobyan, including a denial of access to medical services.
Initially, there were 8 defendants in the case, some of whom were employees of the Ministry of Economy, while others were from the private sector. The criminal case has been terminated for 6 of the 8 defendants on the grounds of active remorse.
The investigation continues concerning Vahan Kerobyan and the director of “Synergy,” Ashot Hovhannisyan, both of whom refuse to admit their guilt. Kerobyan remains under house arrest, while Hovhannisyan has been released on bail.
As noted by Egoryan, the 6 defendants have stated in their testimonies that they are not guilty. However, in order to relieve their “headache,” they agreed to terminate the criminal proceedings through remorse. “In Ani Gevorgyan's (sister-in-law of the Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan) case, the guilt has not even been admitted and has been justified,” the lawyer stated.
In response to a journalist's question about whether the prosecution had offered a “deal” to former Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan, Egoryan mentioned that Kerobyan is not the type of person who would agree to a deal or express remorse for something he did not do.
