The Case Against Alen Simonyan's Daughter-in-Law is Terminated, Prosecutor's Office Confirms
On February 27 of this year, National Assembly President Alen Simonyan announced that the charges against his brother's wife were erroneous. According to the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, the daughter-in-law accepted the charges and, through her lawyer, requested the prosecutor's office to terminate the proceedings on the basis of effective remorse.
It is noteworthy that on January 31, 2024, the NSS and the Investigative Committee conducted searches at the Ministry of Economy of Armenia and in several individuals' residences (in total, more than 15 locations). According to the Investigative Committee, it was determined that officials from the Ministry of Economy of Armenia aided in ensuring that their preferred participant won the competition for the establishment of the 'Public Investment Programs Bank', while creating obstacles for another fund and effectively removing it from the competition. As a result, a company that submitted a bid almost three times higher—over 392 million drams—was declared the winner.
The Prosecutor's Office informed Armlur.am regarding this case: 'Considering that the individuals mentioned below have cooperated with the bodies of criminal prosecution during the preliminary investigation, fully accepted their charges, and did not dispute the factual circumstances described in them, decisions have been made to terminate the public criminal prosecution against them on the grounds of effective remorse, based on the motions submitted by the supervising prosecutor.'
Specifically, on May 17, 2024, the public criminal prosecution against L.M., an employee of a commercial organization, was terminated based on effective remorse. On May 20, 2024, the prosecution against A.G., an employee of a commercial organization, was also terminated for the same reason. On May 23, 2024, the prosecution against A.S., an employee of the Ministry of Economy, was terminated for effective remorse. Similarly, on May 27, 2024, the prosecution against A.I., another employee of the Ministry of Economy, was terminated based on effective remorse. Finally, on May 29, 2024, the prosecution against S.G., an employee of the Ministry of Economy, was also terminated under the same circumstances.
Furthermore, on May 20, 2024, the prosecution against A.Q., an employee of the Ministry of Economy, was terminated based on the ground that the act attributed to her was not committed by her.
