Restoration of International Railway Communication between Armenia and Georgia Initiated by Russian Specialists

Specialists from Russian Railways have begun work to restore railway communication within Armenia and between Armenia and Georgia, which was disrupted due to a natural disaster. This was reported to journalists by the press secretary of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Ovechkin, Andrey Matveev.

“According to the agreements reached between Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Ovechkin and Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, specialists from Russian Railways have quickly begun the restoration of the internal and sole international railway communication between Armenia and Georgia, which was disrupted as a result of the natural disaster that occurred in the Lori and Tavush regions on May 25-26,” he noted.

According to Matveev, Russia is allocating resources to restore railway communication in Armenia. “Considering the importance of the railway for ensuring the supply of vital goods to the population of Armenia, financial resources are being allocated by the Russian Federation for restoration,” he stated, adding that Russian specialists will do everything possible to restore Armenia's railway communication with the outside world as quickly as possible.

The flooding resulted in damage to railway tracks in eight locations, totaling up to 2 kilometers in length.
