Tear Gas Used Against Police: Participant of Protest Arrested
On May 27, 2024, the Police of the Republic of Armenia reported that on the same day at the intersection of Abovyan and Sayat Nova streets in Yerevan, during a demonstration organized by the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement, one of the participants used tear gas against them, obstructing their official duties. This was announced by the Investigative Committee.
The individual was taken to a police station, where a subsequent search, conducted in accordance with the established legal procedures, revealed a tear gas canister marked "Shock." Following necessary measures, the identity of the mentioned citizen was established, who is a 54-year-old resident of Yerevan.
A criminal case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia in the third division of the Central and Norq-Marash administrative districts, based on the characteristics of Article 452, Part 3 of the Criminal Code. The individual has been suspected of using violence against police officers. The circumstances of the case are being clarified during the preliminary investigation.
