Why the Former Mayor of Martakert was Arrested: Details
Another case of large-scale embezzlement through forgery of documents has been uncovered, resulting in the arrest of one individual. This was reported by the Investigative Committee.
“On May 24, 2024, following a report received from the National Security Service of Armenia, the Investigative Committee’s special investigations department launched a criminal case. The preliminary investigation has revealed factual data indicating that M. Sh. and V. S., in collusion, intended to embezzle a light passenger car, a 2010 model 'CHEVROLET LACETTI-1.4' valued at 1,935,000 AMD, belonging to another person or persons. On January 12, 2024, they presented themselves at a state agency to execute a car transfer transaction. V. S., presenting false information regarding the authorization to transfer the aforementioned car, acted as one of the parties in the contract, with V. S. as the donor and M. G. as the recipient. They crafted a forged document evidencing a donation contract, thus illegally transferring the property to M. G., and thereby fraudulently embezzling the car valued at 1,935,000 AMD.
In other words, M. G. acted collectively, by forming and utilizing a forged document of legal significance, thereby committing embezzlement of property on a large scale.
Based on the obtained data, M. G. has been charged under Article 255, Part 2, Points 1 and 3, and Article 457, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. He has been arrested. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. An examination is being carried out regarding the circumstances of the mentioned and other properties that could have been transferred,” the statement reads.
Earlier, lawyer Ruben Melikyan reported that the former mayor of Martakert, Misha Gyurjyan, has been arrested.
